Voices speak to me
whispering, shouting, taunting…
There is no release.
Cold wind the mountain breaks
as it crashes on the stone
though years may bring the mountain down
it doesn’t go alone.
The hammer bends the earthly ore
with the aid of heat
and though the ore bears all the blows
it’s stronger through defeat.
Grief leaves scars within our souls
writhing rivets of deep pain
and sometimes we fear
we won’t be whole again.
But dawn will tear the night apart
and daylight finds the darkest hearts.
Winter is so cold
that shards of starlight break and
drift into the day.
Though you have fallen
you cannot help but rise up
like a heavy cream.

I stand over the corpses of friendships
grief-stricken and whispering, “Please come back!”
Their unobliging souls had departed
and left me in search of greener pastures.
In the winter months,
the earth is a sleeping bear
who dreams of the spring.
I’m thankful for the courtesy,
the kindness that you show to me
which serves as sweet salvation
in moments of desperation
to bring me back to harmony.
Angels and demons:
beyond the world and yet still
enamored with it.
