Name of the night
I have seen my shadow
and given him a name
and ever since that day
I have never been the same.
I have seen my shadow
and given him a name
and ever since that day
I have never been the same.
I realize I have in me
a tyrant and destroyer
and yet this epiphany
will only make me stronger.
I draw my blade and bear my shield;
my stance, I vow, shall never yield.
I’ll bear the brunt of all the blows
from all of our maleficent foes.
And when defeat is close at hand,
that’s when I’ll make my final stand.
Oh, the bloodlust and the joy
as I charge in shouting, “Leroy!”
Exhaustion pulls the sky down low
beyond where even the raindrops go
until the dark swallows the light
and you go out blazing into that good night…
Blacker than the dragon’s scales,
whiter than the creatures nails,
stronger than it’s lengthy stride,
but just as fragile on the inside.
Though we’ve claimed to tame
the rebellious flame,
are we really that strong?
Are we really not wrong?
And we carve our names into the stone
as though we somehow could have known
how long we would rule…
Lord, we were such fools.
From dust we’re born
and to dust we’ll die,
though we lord o’ the oceans
and command the vast skies.
Rain…fall…
Slow~ly~
If only you’d stop,
if on~ly.
Rain…fall…
Dee~per~
Chilling my bones,
you creep~er.
Rain..fall..
Qui~cker.
The wetter the roads,
the sli~cker.
Rain..fall..
Down~ down.
Flooding the rivers,
drowning the town.
Rain. Fall.
To~night.
Swallow the world
and swallow~ the light.
Why do they call us “consumers”
instead of valued “customers?”
Are we supposed to be gluttons
who are being raised for mutton?
Are we nothing more than sheep
that the wealthy like to keep
penned up in a golden cage,
indigent even in our rage?
It’s a prison –
why can’t you see?!
No bars can hide my truth
and in this cage my soul flies free.
Charging forward undeterred,
a locomotive will;
screaming down the steely tracks:
a warhorse off to kill.
But Sleipnir’s stalwart progress,
which lead to victory,
was remembered by his victims
quite in infamy.
