Telling

He almost bought her flowers
just to make her smile
but decided against it
because they didn’t seem her style.

He lingered at the clothing store
but quickly realized
that while he’d like her to wear it
he didn’t know her size.

So he bought her concert tickets
to a local show
and laughed when her smile
told him all he had to know.

Time-lapse convergence

They went to a movie
and they made quite the pair
while they watched a drama
with romance in the air.

A second date out dancing,
bodies moving serpentine;
a third date out to dinner
with company divine.

Ravenous

As the evening dragged on
towards the first light of a new dawn,
she couldn’t stop herself from hating
how much he was hesitating.

Why didn’t he fucking understand
what she meant when she touched his hand?!
Does she have to spell it out;
get on the table and fucking shout?!

Crossroads under the singing moon

When they started to converse,
he couldn’t help but be immersed
in her quiet radiance
or her silver, lilting cadence.

As the night grew ever longer,
he could feel the pangs of hunger
and wondered if he should dare risk
a first, impulsive, goodnight kiss.

Reciprocated

She watched him from across the room;
watched him drinking in the gloom.
She watched his hands dance with the tune;
his fingers dancing in the gloom.

Watched him stare over his blue moon;
watched him watch her in the gloom.
She watched him turn away too soon;
hiding shyness in the gloom.

But then her heart fluttered and swooned;
as she watched him stand and cross the gloom.

At first sight

Your eyes are deep and endless wells
and your hair’s wheat in the breeze;
your skin’s like softened caramel
and you smile with such ease…
