Daily delay

My life’s a series of incomplete movies
and books that litter coffee tables
who are slowly gathering pale dust
which is waiting on a vacuum
that needs to be fixed…

The Procession

Into the horizon you strode
aside the winding sunset road:
the long shadow.

Destination and burdens unknown:
unwanted, adrift, and alone;
oh, long shadow…

How often have I passed you by
as you wandered on the roadside,
long shadow?

You haunt me to this very day,
all you I passed along my way –
the long shadows.

Scandalous

I’m a bad man, I confess,
when I’m a player out on the attack.
My life’s been one big, glorious mess.

The cherry of my eye was a girl named Jess.
She had the most amazing rack.
I’m a bad man, I confess.

And I broke the heart of dear, sweet Bess
when she caught me and her mother in the sack.
My life’s been one big, glorious mess.

Then there was Miss Little Black Dress
who gleefully took me to hell and back.
I’m a bad man, I confess.

And there was that brief time with Wes…
Which, I assure you all, amounted to jack.
My life’s been one big, glorious mess.

Now I spend my nights with Tess
who has quite a dexterous knack…
I’m a bad man, I confess.
My life’s been one big, glorious mess.

To all you recent graduates

My advice to you is this:
do not let the world steamroll you
and treat you like you don’t matter
because you do.

But do not become so cutthroat
that when you wake up at 40
you hate the person looking back at you,
if you wake up at all.

The trick is finding the balance
between your needs and others’
so that you can live well
and with yourself.

Book order cancelations

I canceled a few outstanding book invoices tonight.  All of these were for pre-orders and if you were one of those affected and you are still interested in a copy, please contact me again.  Otherwise, I will put these books back into circulation and will be actively trying to sell them.

Announcement

I’ll be doing a book reading/signing at the Midtown Scholar bookstore in Harrisburg PA on Saturday June 25th from 2-5.  Those who can make it are welcome to come and I’ll be bringing more copies of the book for those who are interested in purchasing one.

Because of this announcement, I’ll be posting a little extra this week both here and on my movie review blog.  I hope y’all enjoy.

The darkening deep

The ancients worshiped water
as both savior and destroyer:
for today’s life-giver
could be tomorrow’s death,
crawling up the river banks.

Which I can relate to now
as the azure devil
swallows up my city,
inch by precious inch.
